For a long time I had decided to not use Twitter as I believed it was really just a bit too gimmicky and personal.

I've started to use it over the last couple of weeks and have to say I'm pretty impressed with the interaction on it.

Have picked up a few in-side tips before they were live on the news stories, have gained some contacts that I've been meaning to for a while and have pulled in a few people to articles that I've written and was looking for feedback on.

It's a little bit more like an open chat room than I realised but a good source of info and networking...

Generally it's quite intrusive to work-flow so you have to be careful about using it but it's a great social tool and it's amazing how many well known people are using it.

Hi,

What do you think about Facebook in terms of the above (using it to promote)?

Good question.

I've started down the road of using Facebook but haven't had too much success at this point.

One of the issues that I've hit appears to be that promotion on Facebook that isn't direct advertising just looks like a bit like you're spamming your network about your site.

It works well with companies who already have a big network of followers but difficult to do for smaller companies.

Anyone else have any good experiences with promoting their websites through the Facebook applications?
