I hope this shameless self plug is OK here, if not my apologies.

I’m building a directory of affiliate programmes and information suitable for the New Zealand web master. I originally started it back in October 2007 but became discouraged by the low number of quality schemes I could find. As I hate have a domain sitting around doing nothing I’ve reactivated the project over the last few days. I now have over 60 links.

My listing criteria is that the program must be

Accept NZ traffic and webmasters
Pay either in NZ $ or using a recognised international stored value payment method such as Paypal. Wire transfers and foreign cheques don’t work for me because bank charges are so expensive
Must seem reasonable, both in terms of what’s offered and disclosure of plan details (although I have listed a few that don’t meet this requirement)
I try to avoid listing any obvious scams

The information I prefer to list is:
What is being sold?
Commission %
Is payment in NZ$, if not is it in an easily usable form such as Paypal?
How is payment made (Cheque, direct deposit)?
How often is payment made?
What is the minimum payment?
What is the cookie retention policy?
Is there a 2nd level scheme

I’m open to suggestions regarding additional information I should have

If anyone has any suitable schemes I should list, please let me know by private message.

I’m also interested in link exchanges with related websites, including blogs and directories.

PS I’ll strip affiliate codes before listing

Hey Bruce,

Glad to hear you’re working on promoting yourself here. Generally there’s no problem with plugging your own business as long as it’s not continual

If anyone is looking for a list of NZ affiliate programs you can also see our own list here;

Cheers

Absolutely, it’s good to have multiple lists and check them all out to find what you are looking for. I’m aware of three actively maintained lists aimed at Kiwi webmasters. I’m not sure what your criteria for inclusion are, but I know my criteria for inclusion differ from those of the third list. Unless the lists become clones of each other (and they’re not that yet), multiple lists just mean extra resources for website owners to choose between.

Kia ora Kiore,

Thank you for your work on the Affiliate directory :)

A couple of others you could consider adding is CafePress which sells t-shirts and other products and payment is through Commission Junction, another affiliate network. I can also confirm for you that CJ pays into NZ bank accounts

maorimusic.com also have an affiliate program and pay into NZ Bank accounts. :)

Kia ora Kotitihaere,

Thanks for the kind words and the heads up on those programmes. I’ve added them in.

I was specially pleased to see that CJ can pay into NZ bank accounts as they are such a major player in the market whom I had previously discounted because I didn’t believe that they did.

Back in April last year I wanted to monetise one of my sites related to prescription glasses by having an affiliate link, but the program I’d need to promote on that site was only available through CJ so I did look into them, but was left believing they wouldn’t pay in NZD. I’ve joined CJ & applied for the program this morning. As the site involved is on the front page of Google.co.nz for a couple of related queries, I should start generating a little revenue.

Kia ora ano!

Glad to be able to help

It is a bit of a mission to get the NZ bank account details filled out properly – make sure you read how they want the numbers entered – it took me about 5 attempts to get them to verify the bank acount, and that was only when I finally read their instructions properly and realised that they wanted the ac numbers NOT in the order that we know them, but in another order!

For CJ, (and they have just changed their policy – it used to be $25) they will pay out when the balance reaches $50USD and when it is paid into a NZ bank account, it will be converted to NZD

Good Luck!

That wasn’t too bad as I read that bit before trying to enter, the picture of a New Zealand cheque helped, I’m old enough to remember them . What annoyed me was the tax field. I naively entered “NON US”, and the form accepted it …. only to immediately reject by email so I had to re-enter all that information again.

Still, I’ve joined now, and signed up for $39 Glasses.

I guess I’ll just have to wait for the first payout to see if I got the bank coding right.

Great website you have going. Thanks for these resources. It is encouraging to see New Zealand companies have caught on to the cost-effectiveness of affiliate marketing. How about a thread called “Affiliate success stories” so we can see who is doing well with what vendors?
Regards
Scott
